Description:

Anne Vilsbøll’s paintings are abstractions that contain representations of forms in space. Figures or objects emerge, detached from their original position. Forms rest within either blue, red, or yellow color scales, vibrating through the tactile surface. The framework of understanding becomes ambiguous. All formal elements are drawn from personally experienced contexts, resulting in new narratives that contain visions of a world full of wonders.

At the center of Anne Vilsbøll’s artistic practice are four elements: plant, water, paper, and life. Paper serves as a symbol of the ecological cycle, carrying a history that allows us to understand our own. The raw material is collected, soaked, cut, shaped, and reduced to a harmonious, asymmetrical, and colorful expression—full of poetry that rhymes in all directions. She works with what she calls the geo-narratives of paper and experiences the production process as an expression of quality, knowledge of origin and biodiversity, seeds, respect for life and death, the cycle of rebirth, conditions for growth, the act of sowing and harvesting, and the possibility for communication between Eastern and Western cultures.
